Houses were built in rows with streets, using advanced techniques like wooden frames and mud-coated walls. Some settlements were larger than early Mesopotamian and Egyptian cities, leading archaeologists to call Vinča the first European city. Named after the loess soil where it was found, the site holds remains of homes, tools, pottery, and early writing. Research began in the 19th century and continues today. Archaeologist and museum curator Drajan Janković helped make the site publicly accessible through the Belgrade City Museum.

Lepenski Vir – Secrets of Lepenski Vir

The long-standing secret of Lepenski Vir, an archaeological site of the Mesolithic and early Neolithic, was finally revealed in the middle of the 20th century. Led by Professor Dragoslav Srejović, archaeologists resolutely dived into the country, discovering a unique cultural gem of the Balkans. Sculptures such as “Progenitor” and “Progenitor” reveal the artistic spirit and matriarchal society. The walls of Golubac defended the city many times and it is believed that they were built in the early 14th century. The fortress lies on the high cliff, at the entrance to the famous Iron Gate. It is part of Djerdap National Park, which is one of the most famous national parks in Serbia.

Maglič – The medieval fortress

Maglič was built in the first half of 13th century, by either Stefan the First-Crowned, or his son Uroš I.
